Dental bridges involve the attachment of an artificial tooth to adjacent teeth with a crown, requiring drilling into the adjacent teeth and ultimately connecting two or more teeth together. Partial dentures, on the other hand, are removable devices made of acrylic +/- metal and replace only the missing teeth. While full dentures replace all teeth, they can cause discomfort and embarrassment due to movement while speaking or eating.

Single tooth implants are a more popular choice for single tooth replacement as they avoid the disadvantages of dental bridges and partial dentures. This procedure involves fixing a titanium screw below the gum, acting as the root of the replacement tooth which is fixed on top. The crown is firmly attached to the implant so it will not move at all during eating or drinking.. This method does not compromise the structural integrity of any other tooth as it does not depend on the neighboring teeth.

What are the steps?

The single tooth implant procedure comprises four steps.

The dentist will take a CT x-ray to obtain a clear image of the existing teeth and jaw.
The titanium implant is placed after administering local anesthesia (with optional sedation if required).
The implant osseointegrates (bonds) to the bone over a period of approximately 3 months.
The definitive ceramic tooth is fitted and the teeth can be used as normal. Maintaining good oral health and regular hygiene appointments is essential to keep implants and gums healthy.

      I am really happy with Titirangi Dental. A couple of years ago I changed from a dentist in town I have been to for decades because his practice got taken over by  when he retired. Dr Luke at Titirangi dentist is a wonderful find. Very very happy with his work and recommendations. Plus he doesn’t try to sell me extra stuff… like Lumio was doing.       My experience at Titirangi dental is always impressive. Even late on a Friday afternoons their professionalism is on top form. I get treated as an important person of significance. They value each individual with such friendly approach which had me relax more. No tricks or upselling just honest focus on what needs attention and a good sense of being taken care of when leaving. Their fabulous reputation most certainly stands on strong foundations thats for sure. I personally wouldnt want to go anywhere else their team from reception to surgeon is too good. I can put my hand on heart and recommend this five star practice as I do. Go for it! You'd be hard pushed to find better me thinks!
