Understanding the Causes of Tooth Wear

The anatomy of our teeth is intricately designed. As we age, our teeth can become worn due to various reasons. Three major causes of tooth wear are:

1. Grinding Teeth (attrition)

Grinding teeth is a common cause of wear, often occurring at night (Bruxism). However, it can also happen during the day and be triggered by anxiety and stress.

2. Acid Exposure (erosion)

Unhealthy foods and soft drinks such as Coca-Cola are acidic and detrimental to your teeth. Healthy foods can also cause significant damage if consumed excessively, such as apples, cucumber, tomatoes, and citrus fruits.

3. Dental Abrasion

This refers to external factors of wear that physically damage the enamel. Toothbrushes and incorrect brushing techniques are the most common causes of dental abrasion.7) Braces (Fast braces®) for Adults & Children

Testimonials

I first went to Titirangi dental in Feb 2022 with a terrible tooth ache. Luke and the team not only helped me get that tooth back to good health but have worked closely with me on gum issues since. I like that Luke talks me through each step before, during and after which helps me stay informed. I also appreciate the they provide options for treatment. I avoided dentists for my whole adult life to my own detriment. Each time I went in, it left me not feeling the best and they didn’t take a holistic approach but that has changed now.

Amazing clinic with a great team, the friendly receptionist and supportive team makes my dental visit comfortable experience. Morgan Scanlan, she is an amazing dental hygienist, she is caring and kind. Dr Luke Simpson is very professional and respectful, he handles patient with a great patience and caring. Dr Luke Simpson did such an amazing job on my teeth. Their practice is equipped with latest technology for all dental procedure. Highly impressed with the dental service I received from the team. Highly recommended dental service for all your dental needs.
