Night guards and sports guards are two different types of dental appliances designed to protect your teeth from damage and injury in specific situations. Dental night guards are worn while sleeping to prevent teeth grinding and clenching caused by sleep bruxism, which affects as many as 60% of adults. On the other hand, dental sports guards are worn during sports activities to protect the teeth from impacts.

Dental sports guards are not designed to be worn as dental night guards. This is because they are more bulky and designed to be worn for a short period of time, usually an hour. In contrast, night guards are significantly slimmer and designed to be worn through the night, seven days a week.

Dental sports guards cover your teeth from the crown to the gum line and beyond to provide protection from injury and damage for a short period. On the other hand, dental night guards cover only the surfaces of your teeth, especially the biting surfaces, to prevent jaw pain, headaches, and orthodontic issues. Dental night guards do not cover your gums, unlike dental sports guards, which can trap bacteria and saliva around your gums causing gingivitis and periodontitis if they are left in for longer periods.

      I am really happy with Titirangi Dental. A couple of years ago I changed from a dentist in town I have been to for decades because his practice got taken over by  when he retired. Dr Luke at Titirangi dentist is a wonderful find. Very very happy with his work and recommendations. Plus he doesn’t try to sell me extra stuff… like Lumio was doing.       My experience at Titirangi dental is always impressive. Even late on a Friday afternoons their professionalism is on top form. I get treated as an important person of significance. They value each individual with such friendly approach which had me relax more. No tricks or upselling just honest focus on what needs attention and a good sense of being taken care of when leaving. Their fabulous reputation most certainly stands on strong foundations thats for sure. I personally wouldnt want to go anywhere else their team from reception to surgeon is too good. I can put my hand on heart and recommend this five star practice as I do. Go for it! You'd be hard pushed to find better me thinks!
