How to Properly Maintain Your Cosmetic Dental Treatments

How to Properly Maintain Your Cosmetic Dental Treatments

Modern cosmetic dental treatments can make your teeth white and perfect, restoring your confidence at the same time. If you’re not happy with your teeth, there is a cosmetic dental treatment designed to help you. With the proper care, your smile will stay beautiful for many years to come.

No matter which cosmetic dentistry procedures you’ve had or are considering, here’s our guide to keeping your teeth looking great and protecting your investment.

Teeth Whitening

If you’ve had a teeth whitening treatment such as Zoom! Teeth Whitening, you’ll want to avoid the things that made you need the treatment in the first place. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking all contribute to making your teeth dull. Once you’ve had a whitening treatment, your teeth will stay whiter between treatments if you avoid things that stain them.

If you can’t do without your tea or coffee, then use a straw to drink them so contact with your teeth is limited. Rinse your mouth after eating anything that could stain your teeth, and use a whitening toothpaste to brush at least twice a day.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that sit on the front of your existing teeth to cover cracks, discolouration, crooked teeth or gaps. They are custom made to fit your teeth, and the colour is perfectly matched so no one notices any difference.

Veneers are low maintenance, and you just need to brush and floss as you usually would to keep them looking good. The only thing you need to remember is that they are porcelain and therefore can be brittle, so avoid chewing or biting anything very hard such as bones or hard sweets. Other types of dental veneers require the same kind of maintenance, although composite resin veneers are more prone to chipping, so extra care should with how and what you eat.

Dental Bridges and Crowns

Dental bridges can often be removed for cleaning and maintenance, and you should treat them the same as you treat your other teeth with regular brushing, flossing and visits to the dentist.

Permanent dental bridges and dental crowns are also maintained the same way, but it can be useful to use a water flosser to clean between your dental bridge and natural teeth.
